The EYFS department consists of our two nurseries; Caterpillars and Butterflies, and Pre-Prep. Caterpillars is home to our youngest pupils and children can join from their second birthday. The Caterpillar room provides a gentle start to nursery and children can enjoy exploring the world around them through a variety of well thought out activities designed to foster curiosity and aid early learning. Once over three, the children can move up to our Butterflies nursery. Here the children build on the foundations of learning in a fun and stimulating room. Bright and enticing resources are available and the children enjoy learning about the world through activities designed to encourage enquiry and a love of learning. Throughout both nurseries, children are introduced to letters and numbers through age appropriate toys and a love of stories is developed.

Pre-Prep completes the final year of EYFS and marks the first year of the main school (Reception). Much of learning is topic based and incorporates visits and trips to local landmarks and museums. A highlight of the year is the annual EYFS Nativity play and the children rise to the challenge of performing to their families. The curriculum in Pre-Prep incorporates the introduction of Phonics and early Mathematics with other areas such as Science and Geography linked to class topics.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and children at the end of Pre-Prep are assessed against the learning goals of the Foundation Stage Profile. We work alongside parents and all children in the EYFS will have their own online ‘Learning Journey’ created by staff at school and enhanced by experiences at home. Throughout the EYFS emphasis is placed upon learning to work and play alongside others and children develop firm friendships as they progress through the nurseries and into Pre-Prep. Children throughout the EYFS enjoy specialist teaching in both PE and Music and skills discovered stand our children in good stead as they progress through the school.
